BERA Podcast – Inclusivity in Contemporary Music Education

The BERA podcast explores current issues and questions across educational research. A few weeks ago, I was delighted to host an episode on inclusivity in contemporary music education, which has just been released today.

Dr Pete Dale (University of York) and Professor Pam Burnard (University of Cambridge) explore creativities in the context of contemporary music practices in their research, and currently convene the AHRC Contemporary Urban Music for Inclusion Network (CUMIN).

Haleemah X is a rap artist and filmmaker who explores Muslim female identity in her work, and is currently completing her PhD on this subject at the University of Salford.

The discussion includes how contemporary music practices can lead to a more inclusive creative education, how the curriculum might accommodate this, and the influence of contemporary music on practice-based research in higher education.
